For many years, Mr. Hongzhi Li, the founder of Falun Gong, has remained very low-key in the public eye. However, The New York Times recently published biased and misleading reports about a series of companies founded by Falun Gong practitioners, such as Shen Yun Performing Arts and The Epoch Times, once again placing Mr. Li in the spotlight.
The picture they paint of Mr. Li is fragmented and what specific glimpses they do offer bear no resemblance to the spiritual leader I know and have worked with for almost 20 years. Biden Awards Presidential Medals of Freedom in White House Ceremony President Joe Biden awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to 19 people in a ceremony at the White House on Jan. 4, with recipients including actors, musicians, athletes, scientists, entrepreneurs, and political leaders.
Three of the recipients are former political leaders: former Democratic Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, former Republican Michigan Gov. George Romney, and former Democratic Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Other honorees include U2 musician Bono, actor Michael J. Fox, conservationist Jane Goodall, NBA legend Earvin "Magic" Johnson, fashion designer Ralph Lauren, soccer star Lionel Messi, scientist and TV host Bill Nye, actor Denzel Washington, and investor George Soros.
Biden praised the recipients for using their diverse talents to work on behalf of the country and to help Americans in need. "Let me just say to each of you: thank you, thank you, thank you for all you've done to help this country," Biden said. (More) | |
New Orleans Releases Names of Truck Attack Victims The New Orleans coroner's office has identified most of the 14 victims who were killed after a man drove a truck into crowds on the city's Bourbon Street on New Year's Day. The coroner said that all the victims died from blunt force injuries. Thirty-five others were injured. The suspect, identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar of Texas, was killed in a shoot-out with police.
The names of 12 victims have been released. Most of the victims were in their 20s, with the youngest being 18 and the oldest 63.
One of the victims is Ni'Kyra Cheyenne Dedeaux, an 18-year-old high school graduate. Her mother, Melissa Dedeaux, shared in a Facebook post that Dedeaux was killed in the attack and asked for prayers for her family.
