Trump Meets With France's Macron, Ukraine's Zelenskyy in Paris

President-elect Donald Trump met with French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at The Elysee Presidential Palace in Paris on Saturday evening. Macron was seen giving a thumbs-up as Trump and Zelenskyy flanked him for a photo opportunity at the presidential palace.

Macron had planned to meet with Zelenskyy, and the French president's office said he proposed the three-way meeting shortly before Trump's arrival. "The world's going a little crazy right now and we'll be talking about that," Trump said ahead of the meeting.Trump has signaled he would prefer to quickly negotiate an end to the ongoing Russia–Ukraine war, but with questions remaining about how he would halt the fighting.

"We all want this war to end as soon as possible and in a just way," Zelenskyy wrote in a statement on X following the meeting. "We spoke about our people, the situation on the ground, and a just peace. We agreed to continue working together and keep in contact. Peace through strength is possible." (More)

Slain CEO Should Have Been Guarded, Says Security Officer Who Once Protected Him

Security expert Philip Klein, who previously helped protect Brian Thompson, cannot fathom why the UnitedHealthcare CEO was alone and unguarded as he walked along a New York City sidewalk on Dec. 4. This made Thompson an easier target for a gunman who emerged from the shadows, fatally shot him, and fled on a motorized bicycle. The suspect remained on the loose as of Dec. 6.

Considering Thompson's prominence at one of the nation's largest corporations, reports of threats against him, and the fact that UnitedHealthcare employs its own security team, Klein asked: "What the [expletive] is this man doing in New York City without protection?" UnitedHealthcare, which has not responded to The Epoch Times' request for comment, was "very attuned towards the safety of their employees," said Klein, based on his contacts with the company.

That's why Klein, CEO of Klein Investigations & Consulting, said he was "baffled a little bit" over security officers' absence when Thompson was gunned down. (More)

Trump Says US Should Not Intervene in Syria

President-elect Donald Trump said on Saturday that the United States should avoid involvement in the conflict in Syria, where a terrorist group is challenging President Bashar al-Assad's rule as front lines have collapsed across the country amid battles for control of key cities.

Calling Syria a "mess" and "not our friend," Trump said America should avoid any involvement in the conflict. "The United States should have nothing to do with it," he wrote in all-caps in a Dec. 7 post on Truth Social. "This is not our fight. Let it play out. Do not get involved!" The president-elect said that opposition fighters have already reached the suburbs of the Syrian capital Damascus and are getting ready to make "a very big move toward taking out Assad."

Assad fled the capital later the same day, according to Rami Abdurrahman of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. (More)
