Biden briefly exchanged hats with a supporter of former President Donald Trump at an event commemorating the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Shortly after the photo circulated, the White House said that the president wore the hat in the spirit of returning to "bipartisan unity," White House senior deputy press secretary Andrew Bates wrote on Twitter. "As a gesture, he gave a hat to a Trump supporter who then said that in the same spirit, POTUS should put on his Trump cap. He briefly wore it." Biden spoke about bipartisan unity at a fire station in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after he, Trump, and Vice President Kamala Harris made a rare joint appearance at the 9/11 memorial at the World Trade Center site, also known as ground zero, in New York City. Trump shook hands with both Biden and Harris. The twist? Patients knew they were receiving a placebo—and it still worked. While the concept of placebos providing pain relief is not entirely new, this study breaks ground by informing participants they were receiving a placebo—a departure from the common practice of concealing this information. The research team set out to uncover the mechanisms by which placebos alleviate back pain. Traditionally, the effectiveness of placebo treatments has been thought to rely on deceiving the patient by presenting a false narrative of an actual treatment. The trial, published Wednesday in the Journal of American Medical Association Network Open, involved 101 adult participants with chronic back pain aged 21 to 70. The findings suggest that honest placebo treatments "can confer meaningful clinical benefits to patients with chronic back pain" by engaging brain pathways linked to pain regulation, the authors said. Mike DeWine dismissed claims that some Haitian or other immigrants have eaten pets in Springfield, the Ohio city at the center of a nationwide immigration controversy. In an interview with CBS News, DeWine, whose family operates a charity in Haiti that has built a network of schools in the impoverished country, was asked whether anyone in Ohio was eating dogs or cats illegally. "This is something that came up on the internet, and the internet can be quite crazy sometimes," DeWine responded. "Look, the mayor ... of Springfield says there's no truth in that," DeWine said. "They have no evidence of that at all. So if we go with what the mayor says, he knows his city." Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost said on Sept. 11 that there are credible claims that immigrants have captured geese for food. Read the full story here› How do you like our new sections? But symbolically, that object can be a bridge that connects us to the lives and stories of those who came before us.
Entire family narratives are built around an heirloom, whether it's a handcrafted piece of furniture or favorite piece of jewelry. They don't just carry memories—they also carry the principles and values that those ancestors held dear. Through a simple fur hunting cap, a grandson might get a taste of his grandfather's adventurous spirit and love of the outdoors. He might wonder about the thoughts and dreams his father felt when holding the same cap as a youth.
Heirlooms endure, and through that endurance they teach us how perseverance, tradition, and family shape who we are. Do you have any treasures in your family? What will you pass on to the next generation? | | | EPOCH TV | | | OPINION | | | EPOCH FUN | | |
